The answer to this question depends on the exact model and year of your vehicle. Audi A4 1.8T and VW Passat 1.8T: Yes, a bypass valve replacement is recommended. Audi TT 1.8T, VW Beetle, Golf, Jetta 1.8T: A bypass valve replacement is recommended for all 2001 and earlier vehicles. For 2002 and later cars with the factory-rated 180HP engine, a new bypass valve is not required. For the cars we have listed as needing a new bypass valve, we recommend using the latest factory valve, part number 06A.145.710N available from your local VW dealer or through NEUSPEED. This valve has a 14.4 lb spring inside of it while the earlier factory valves only had an 8.8 lb spring inside. To determine if your car already has the 710N bypass valve installed, locate the bypass valve and look at the Bosch part number stamped onto the valve body. If you see part # 0 280 142 114 on the valve, you already have the 710N version and there is no need to replace the valve unless it is malfunctioning or you are runni
