I have a seven year-old son. Can I choose whether to place him in the Rookie or Machine Pitch division?
Yes and no. As the parent, you know your child’s background, and the SOLL eagerly solicits and appreciates your input on where you feel your child should play. However, the Rookie Machine Pitch division was designed with experienced six year olds in mind, to challenge them and to prep them for the move to full Machine Pitch the following year. The preferred division for seven year olds is the Machine Pitch division. To ensure the seven year old players get in the division most appropriate for their skill level, all seven year olds must try out during machine pitch tryouts. The machine pitch coaching staff, in conjunction with the Machine Pitch Player Agent, will make recommendations as to whether the player should play in Rookie or Machine Pitch. This tried-and-true method has worked very well.
