If you choose to change your status within the US to that of F-1 or J-1 student, you must inform us (via oipadm@pobox.upenn.edu) if your change of status is not approved by the program start date listed on your Form I-20 or DS-2019. Upon your notification, we will defer your program start date in SEVIS by one month. After that, if your change of status is still pending, you will need to update OIP-ISSS every month to keep your SEVIS record active. Once your change of status has been approved, you must meet with an OIP-ISSS advisor with the change of status approval notice, stamped I-20, and passport within 10 days of the approval. Certain immigration status holders are not allowed to begin studies until the change of status is approved.

What is your question?
