AirPlan does not yet support the new Garmin USB interface protocol. Fortunately, the 296 also supports the older serial interface protocol. You will need a Garmin serial interface cable to connect AirPlan to your Garmin 296. I realize that “significant” is a subjective term, but the difference appears to be around 1NM which can be a big deal when flying with the moving map. Is there any adjustment I can make to bring these two back in-line? Which one should I rely on? Are there any product changes in the works that will have an impact on this?
