No. Freeview boxes and Digital satellite receivers are completely different animals. Freeview is designed to receive terrestrial digital signals from an aerial (TV antenna) and a Digital satellite receiver is designed to receive signals from a satellite dish. I currently watch TV using an aerial but I’m too far from the Bressay transmitter in Shetland or Keelylang Hill in Orkney to receive Digital Freeview. Is it worthwhile waiting for the complete Digital switchover in May 2010, buy a Freeview box or should I invest now in a Freesat or Free-to-Air satellite system? In most areas of the UK that have already switched to Digital Freeview (with a terrestrial aerial), generally obtain good reception. However, there are many instances of poor reception that can be caused by transmitter or microwave link disruptions, local interference, buildings, powerlines, obstructions, sub-standard aerials or cabling and in some cases, even the weather!
