Answer Good day Ian, and thank you very much for your question. I apologize for the delay in my response, but due to the Southern California summer, things have been extremely busy. Entrance into EMT school is in no way dependent on whether or not you are a new U.S. citizen. Usually EMT programs are provided through community colleges, and about half of the colleges that offer EMT courses also offer paramedic academies. As far as a driving record, if it is fairly clean that’s all that’s asked. Depending on the state you’re in, you’ll need to acquire an ambulance driver’s license which you can take after both completion of EMT school and gaining employment with a fire department or ambulance service. This is done by taking a written test provided by the DMV (department of motor vehicles)and missing a maximum number of three questions. The test can be retaken 4 times in a 1 month period…all attempts on the first day if you wish. It’s not too difficult. I hope this has answered your que
