I have a chart I would like to stitch, but is for evenweave fabric and I want to work on aida. How can I work out what count aida to use?
Cross stitch on evenweave fabric is worked over two strands of thread, so fabric with a 28 HPI count, i.e. 28 holes/threads per inch, will create 14 stitches per inch, the same as 14 HPI aida. Halving the HPI of evenweave gives you the equivalent aida HPI, so it is easy to convert from evenweave to aida, and vice versa. back to top I have just purchased a kit that is worked on Navy aida. I have never used a dark coloured fabric before, and am finding it difficult to work as the holes are hard to see. Do you have any suggestions that would make this easier for me to work? There are several things you could try to make it easier. First make sure that you are working in a good light and use a lamp that simulates daylight if you can. Use a magnifier, and work with something white – a sheet of paper or pillowcase – on your lap to show through the holes. Alternatively, work with a light source behind your stitching. Some of the lamps can be attached to some frames and shine behind the fabric
