Answer Heremia, The fluid level is checked on level ground with the vehicle running. The filter is in the pan and to check or change it you will have to purchase a pan gasket and filter kit. Also, five quarts of transmission fluid will be needed. It takes just over four quarts. So, after you change the filter and gasket, use on gasket sealer, it will damage the transmission. Just clean off the old gasket and replace it with the new one. Now, add the four quarts, start the vehicle and run it for a few minutes. Check the fluid after you have run it through the gears sitting still. Put it back in park and open the hood and pull the transmission dipstick and wipe it off and reintall it fully and pull it out again to get an accurate reading.
