I got papers saying the insurance company is requesting something called a Utilization Review. What is that and what does it mean for my medical bills?
The Utilization Review is a process where the insurance company can have your medical treatment examined. The reviewer is appointed by the Workers Compensation Bureau and he or she will look at whether the treatment is related to your work injury or if it is reasonable or necessary. If the reviewer determines that the treatment is not related, reasonable or necessary, you still have the right to have a Workers Compensation Judge review that determination. If this happens to you, you should consult with an attorney immediately as there are time limits involved with requesting a Judge review the finding.
