I got a new computer. How do I transfer my Transana data?
On the old computer, start Transana and load your database. On Windows, go to Options > Program Settings, or on OS X, go to Transana > Preferences, and look at the Directories tab. Make sure you have your Video Root Directory set and pointing to your video directory. It’s okay of the media files are in subdirectories off this directory. (This step makes the transfer MUCH easier, as without a video root, all of your Episodes and Clips use your operating system’s file naming standards. Windows uses drive letters and backslashes in file paths. OS X doesn’t have drive letters and uses forward slashes for file paths. The Video Root setting allows Transana to find your media files on the new OS’s file system more easily.) Go to Tools > Export Database. Use the Browse button to select your video root and enter a name for the file. Press OK. This will create a file in Transana-XML format with a “.tra” extension that contains all the data from your database. If you have more than one database,
