I got a letter from the Graduate School pointing out that my GPA has been below 3.0 for (1, 2, or 3) semesters. What do I do?
In any event your first step should be to discuss the situation with your academic advisor. The seriousness of the situation is a function of how long the problem has persisted. If your GPA has been <3.0 for 3 semesters you must request a waiver from the Graduate School (in the form of a letter) and this request must be accompanied by supporting letters from your academic advisor and the Graduate Director. This request letter must 1) describe the circumstances that led you into this academic trouble, and based on that, 2) your plan for getting out of academic trouble. Note:"a student may repeat a course in order to improve the grade.
