In certain circumstances, after 90 days and prior to 120 days, if the property is unclaimed and has a value of less than $50.00, the finder may claim the property. Property having a value exceeding $50.00 requires by law, a printed public notice to appear for seven days in a local newspaper announcing that the item(s) are in possession of the police department. If, after the printed notice in the paper, the property is not claimed by the owner, the property can be returned to the finder.
