I found out im pregnant two days ago,but had xrays done to my foot 3 weeks ago, will it effect the fetus?
No, not unless you had tons of x rays done. I found out I was pregnant after painting my house, dying my hair, and using those spray cans of paint that say, “known in the state of California to cause birth defects.” I stressed and worried about what I had done to my baby until he was born perfect. He is now a year old and a very healthy, happy, and smart baby. That small amount of radiation from a foot x ray is nothing to worry about.
Everything is fine. Doctors recommend not getting x-rays while pregnant. But in actuality, x-rays, in small doses are NOT harmful to the fetus. You need the radiation to be MUCH higher then x-ray level to harm the fetus (or you for that matter). However we prefer to err on the side of caution and do not have unnecessary x-rays while pregnant. X-ray of your foot is fine. Even if it had been an X-ray of your belly you would have been fine. so dont worry, relax, you and the baby are great.
Please talk to your OB/GYN, if you are indeed pregnant. He/she can probably reassure you better than anyone else! But, in the meantime, regarding the radiation exposure: An x-ray of your foot would expose your uterus (and therefore your baby, if you are pregnant) to very little, if any, radiation. X-rays do not fly all willy nilly around a room. They are highly directed and concentrated beams of radiation which only expose the area of interest…in this case, your foot. The following is from a website which has questions answered by qualified personnel, who are experts in radiation and it’s effects. Here is a very similar question: “QUESTION: I found out about four months ago that I was pregnant and I need an x ray on my ankle. Will the radiation affect the baby? ANSWER: X rays of your ankle or foot, performed with modern technology, will deliver a negligible dose of radiation to your unborn baby. The dose will be too small to measure. It will be substantially less than the dose you (a
