There has been a report of this problem with the French version of Word 2004. (I have not heard of or seen the problem in the US version.) This happens with any Unicode Greek font. The problem turns out to be the spellcheck setting: the French version of Word 2004 seems not to know what to do when it meets Greek characters. So the workaround is to turn off automatic spellchecking. Open Preferences, choose Spelling and Grammar, and uncheck “Check spelling while you type” as well as “Check grammar while you type” and “Check grammar with spelling.” Return to top of FAQ.
