The emissions-based car park charging scheme is designed to provide a discounted rate for drivers of lower-emitting vehicles. We are keen to encourage staff to be environmentally-conscious and are happy to reward staff that choose to drive vehicles with lower emissions. Through the Environmental Sustainability Strategy (2010) the University has made a strong carbon reduction commitment that takes into account the environmental effects of all our activities, including staff and student travel. Whilst we recognise the need for many staff members to use a vehicle to visit our sites, the type of vehicle used is not in our control, despite contributing to our overall carbon footprint and the air quality of the Leicester area.
