Adobe has changed the way it gives users the Acrobat Reader. This sometimes leads to confusion about whether the installation has been completed. It is actually a two step process. By default, when you try to install the reader it downloads a file called “Adobe Download Manager” to the desktop or temporary folder. This file is typically around 400Kb and takes about 3 minutes to load. This is step 1. Depending on what operating system you are using, you may then have to “double click” on this file to start the actual installation process. This is step 2. This will then download a file of approximately 8Mb which takes around 30-40 minutes on a standard modem connection. Once this “second” download has completed, the Acrobat Reader is considered installed. Trying to open the test file at http://www.learningseat.com/utils/test.pdf will confirm this.
