I don’t understand wakesurfing. How can you be so close to the boat without a rope and is it safe?

The engine is in the middle of the boat and the propeller is located before the swim platform so there is no danger like outboard engines. The wake is massive and allows a constant wave, after a few tries toss in the rope and surf!!!
