Take all the courses. Although some MPH programs allow applicants who have not completed all prerequisites to be accepted and then “remedy the deficiency before entering or during the first year of the program” (http://depts.washington.edu/envhlth/prospective/prerequisites.php), the UCD admissions committee feels that the three prerequisite areas are reasonable, customary, and sufficiently flexible. By “reasonable,” we mean that the MPH faculty agrees that these three areas are important for MPH candidates to understand prior to their matriculation. By “customary,” we mean that they are no more stringent than similar course requirements at other MPH programs (e.g., http://www.jhsph.edu/academics/degreeprograms/mph/prospective_students/B_MPH_Admissions_Inf.html). By “sufficiently flexible,” we mean that for a given area most undergraduate colleges probably offer multiple “equivalent” courses. Please note: chemistry is only “recommended,” not required, for admission.
