I compiled and installed Music Applet, but when I run it from the command line, nothing happens. Whats wrong?

GNOME panel applets aren’t supposed to be run from the command line. After installing Music Applet, right-click on a panel, choose “Add to Panel”, and select Music Applet from the list that appears.
