I checked a Radio Stations playlist and clicked a buy link that took me to ArkivMusic, but the recording was out-of-print. Why?
We are affiliated with radio stations across the country. Unfortunately, many of the recordings heard on classical radio stations are technically out of print (about 50% of what is played, in fact). This is just a reflection of how the music business works – record labels frequently delete titles from their catalogs but radio stations keep playing what they have in their libraries. Reissued recordings are constantly being released though, often with different catalog numbers and with different couplings. Most stations place a “Buy CD” button next to every entry on their playlists because we put a lot of effort to link up all entries to relevant purchasing opportunities here on ArkivMusic. Rather than having a lot of missing links for out-of-print titles, we try to link all of them to reissued recordings, when available, or if a specific performance truly is out of print, we make an alternative suggestion that is as close as possible to what was played.
