It’s not necessary, but it can cause issues in dealing with international travel, if your expecting to travel sometime soon. Otherwise, it’s worthwhile to process the name change. You just have to make sure that you always book your flights in your maiden name rather than your married name. Even then, in some countries many times you can be questioned about your visit (the reasons for it, whom your with, where your staying) and if it comes up that your traveling with your spouse under a different name, it’ll require a longer interview to explain the situation. If you mistakely book the flight in your married name, you can simply just bring your certified marriage certificate (from state or country) to prove your name change. Once again it takes a bit of time since you have to explain the situation to the border officials, but usually presents no problems.
