I certainly appreciate the fact that the Vanderkamp experience can lead to significant spiritual growth, but will it be fun? And what about my teen-agers, are they too old?
Vanderkamp is a place for simplicity, relaxation, fun, freedom, and responsibility. Campers are healthy and happy. They laugh and actually enjoy living simply without the distraction of television or video games. They sing, pray, splash, and run. They are full of life and innocent mischief. “Fun for the sake of fun” flourishes, as does learning for the sake of personal knowledge. Worship is a natural outgrowth of the developing Christian community. Programs provide retreat from regimentation and pressure of everyday life, while reflecting organization and providing opportunities for personal growth. Teens find a place where they can truly be themselves. They do not have to belong to the right crowd or feel challenged because of their faith. They can find their voice and perhaps answers to some of their more difficult questions about God because they are encouraged to listen for God’s voice and read His Word.
