Basket strainers are usually a worse choice than no strainer at all. The small diamond shaped openings clog quickly causing your gutters to back up and overflow. Additionally, the material used is flimsy aluminum wire, aluminum mesh or thin galvanized wire prone to rusting. Those strainers will have to be replaced within two to three years.
