I am using the news.compuserve.com news server and I am receiving the “Newsgroup does not exist” error message. Whats wrong?
This is caused by the automatic switching of news servers that occurs when you access the news.compuserve.com server. When you access this server, you are routed to one of CompuServe’s news servers. Not all the news servers will have the same newsgroups located on each server. So, if you are first routed to one news server, and the next time you go online you are routed to a different news server, the second news server might not have the newsgroup you want. To fix this, use a specific CompuServe IP address (shown in the next answer below) instead of the ‘generic’ news.compuserve.com, OR get another Internet Service Provider (ISP). UPDATE: November 17, 1999 Compuserve has recently re-built their news servers, and, according to them as well as reports from our users, their new server (or servers) are synchronized. Note that you can only use the news.compuserve.com news server if you dial in through a Compuserve “node”. You may not dial in to your local ISP, then use OUI to access their
