I am trying to load the bird data (.pdb) file onto my memory card, but it seems to be taking a long time. Am I doing something wrong?

If you are using a cradle to install the file onto a memory card, keep in mind that this can take a while, depending on the file size (over 45 minutes for larger files). We recommend that you install the software when you are able to leave it for at least an hour. If you are installing using a card reader, the installation is much quicker. Card readers are relatively inexpensive and can dramatically improve transfer time.
