I am trying to get away from round-robin reading, as some students loose interest while others read. Any suggestions?
Round-robin reading occurs when one student reads aloud while the remainder of the class follows along. Many struggling readers find reading orally in class an embarrassment. In addition, other students must often listen to slow and labored reading and may become bored and distracted. Alternatives to round-robin reading include choral reading (reading aloud together in unison), Everyone Read to (ERTteacher designates a specific place on the text to read to and follows up with discussion), and whisper reading (students read aloud but in a whisper while the teacher circulates to listen).
