I am starting a psychology private practice next week – can someone help me make a list of office supplies needed?
Stapler, scissors, paper clips, post-its, pens that you like. Those fancy multi-page folders for client files, if you use them. Do you have enough tapes for recording your sessions, if you do that? Do you have whatever you need for backing up your computer, like blank cd-r’s or dvd-r’s? Ideally you would have a fireproof place, like a safe, to put the backups. A UPS (uninterruptible power supply) to power your computer for a few minutes if the power goes out, so you can save what you were working on. A flash drive (or “thumb” drive or “USB” drive) can be handy, as long as you remember not to keep confidential client info on it. A locking file cabinet? I have found the cheap ones aren’t worth it. Get a good one from a used office furniture store. You can’t get this at Office Depot, but some kind of bland wall decoration would be nice, something that makes the place comfy.
