You may have a proxy server configured, and your web browser may be not configured to make an exception for the following addresses: 127.0.0.1 localhost Fortunately, both Netscape and Internet Explorer make it easy to make exceptions for a few sites. I don’t know why they don’t make exceptions for these two addresses already, since any connection to them is, by definition, a connection to the same computer! A proxy server could never find it. In Netscape, you can add exceptions through the following sequence of menus: Edit->Preferences->Advanced (click the plus sign)->Proxies-> Manual Proxy Configuration->Exceptions. If you are using “automatic proxy server configuration,” you will need to talk to your network admin about adding an exception for localhost and 127.0.0.1. Ours is not the only program that uses this standard feature, so hopefully they will be agreeable.
