Effective September 1, 2003, Public Act 93-553 states if an employee is a dependent under their spouse´s state insurance at the time of the retirement, the employee can remain a dependent instead of returning to member status and paying prorated premiums for service time under twenty years. You will be allowed to retain life insurance coverage.
