I am printing good looking barcodes which read well with my barcode reader but my customer says that the barcodes fail his verifier tests. What does this mean?
A. Verifiers are specialist barcode reading devices which test barcodes against an agreed quality standard. Meeting the quality standard ensures that the barcode can be read by barcode readers of any vintage. You may be lucky enough to have the latest ‘state of the art’ barcode reader which can cope with damaged barcodes. Another user may be using a barcode scanner well over ten years old. Verifiers test for things like adequate ‘quiet zones’ on each side of the barcode, the widths and sharpness of the printed bars and the overall contrast of the symbol. Organisations like our sponsor sell verifiers so that you can check the quality of your own barcodes.
