I am overcrowded – what are the options?

The Housing Policy allows a priority where a household meets the criteria laid down in the Housing Act 1985 s.324. This is known as “Statutory Overcrowding”. In order to be statutory overcrowded, you must meet at least one of two standards – either the room standard or the space standard. In calculating these standards children under the age of one year are not included in the calculation, and children under ten years only count as half a unit. There is more detailed information regarding the calculation in the Housing Allocations Policy. If you think you may qualify for this priority please contact your local area office to arrange for an assessment.
