I am not in favor of any local road total reconstruction. Has rehabilitation or overlays been considered in order to stretch the money/mile?
Absolutely. The City intends to only reconstruct those roads where, due to subgrade and subsurface failures, rehabilitation is no longer an option. Thus, for the vast majority of streets in Clawson, the work will consist of rehabilitation, surface repair or routine maintenance only. Provide a long-range plan for maintenance to avoid the present situation in the future. There is probably a maintenance plan in place, but a written plan with goals would make the vote easier. Until recently, much of the work on local and major streets has been approached in response to complaints or comments received. In recent years the City has developed a more rational process with a major focus on maintenance on recently rehabilitated streets to better ensure longevity. We are developing a written plan that will govern future maintenance and establishing measurable goals to ensure a successful program.
