I am / My student is completing assignments, and still doing poorly on quizzes – what is wrong?

Quizzes are really “study checks.” Quizzes are given at most 2x/week and cover material which the student was exposed to at least 2-3 days previously [sometimes, longer]. Most times, quizzes are composed of mostly vocabulary terms – which are assigned at the beginning of each unit. Students are often allowed to utilize their vocabulary review or other assignments on the quizzes as well – so students really need to be keeping up with their homework. Also, although they are “pop” quizzes, many times there will be hints given verbally or on the board [or website…!!!] as to when students should expect the next quiz. Students should be keeping their eyes and ears open. To do well on the quizzes, students need to be continually reviewing. Even when there is no nightly homework, it is recommended that students briefly review present and past material to retain comprehension.
