With some ethernet switches (for example, the ones that come in the IBM 1350 Cluster), there may be DHCP problems, caused by the Spanning-Tree protocol setting in the ethernet switch. To work around this problem, you can either turn off Spanning-Tree (usually not a good idea) or enable the portFast setting for the ports (recommended).
