I am eight weeks pregnant and uninsured, what are my options?
Go to your local Department of Human Services. The state you live in should have some kind of medical coverage that would cover the pregnancy and delivery. I was in the middle of a horrid divorce and raising 3 kids alone when I got pregnant this time. I lost my job due to problems with the pregnancy and had no insurance at all. I signed up on state medicaid and it is covering it all. I hated to go that route but it beats a bill of 7500 and up. I wish you the very best of luck with your new blessing!!!
Check with your department of human services. Usually, you go to your health department, take a pregnancy test, if it’s positive they give you a “presumptive” this lets your state medicaid know that you are eligible for state insurance. With that form you can see any doctor on the list until you get your insurance cards. But you must go down to the department of human services and apply for the state medicaid insurance. They will make an appointment for you and assign you a “case worker” to see how much medicaid you qualify for. Some people have a co-pay, like myself, I pay 35.00 per appointment, or like my sister-in-law, because she has a very low income, she has no co-pay. The insurance will cover you usually until 6 weeks after the birth, and then if you don’t have your own insurance by then, your child will automatically receive medicaid.
