It is important that any candidate changing career fields interpret the relevance of their previous career field to their new career field. This holds true in education as well. It is not sufficient to submit the same resume, or the same descriptors for an education position as you would have in business. As you prepare your skill descriptors for your previous positions, ask yourself, not what did I do there, but what did I learn from this position that will make me a better educator. In addition, consider including a “Summary of Skills” section that enables you to communicate what you see as the most valuable elements of what you have gained from all of your experiences. Be sure to list your Teaching Intern Experience(s) on your resume. Remember, despite how proud you are of your previous career, these internship experiences are your most relevant experiences to teaching and should be feature more prominently than your business experience.
