• I am planning my A-level coursework on finding the alcohol content in a range of wines and investigating how the level of volatile acids changes with alcohol content and the age of the sample. I was planning on distilling the wines then using a hydrometer to get the alcohol content. Firstly is this the best method for this or is it too simple for the coursework? Secondly what is the best method for measuring the volatile acid content in a sample? I’ve read about the ‘cash still’ method but I don’t really understand it.
