I am a student in a PA Program located in a community college and have heard that the new accreditation Standards will no longer allow PA programs to be sponsored by community colleges. Is this true?
The accreditation Standards scheduled to become effective in September, 2006, will not have any impact on currently accredited programs sponsored by community colleges. Programs that exist in those institutions will continue to be accredited by the ARC-PA. The Standard you refer to reads, “The sponsoring institution must a) be accredited by a recognized regional or specialized and professional accrediting agency to award graduates of the PA program a baccalaureate or higher degree.” There is a footnote with this Standard that states “Programs sponsored by the military branches of the federal government or accredited prior to 1/1/06 will not be held to this Standard.” The intent of the footnote is to allow those programs that currently exist in an institution that is not able to award baccalaureate or higher degrees, such as the military or community college programs, to continue to sponsor their existing programs.I am very concerned over the passage of the law concerning community coll
