I am a Scuba Instuctor (PADI and NAUI) can I recive a SDI student since they are not in the Universal Referral Program?
For PADI, the answer is yes. I’m not sure about NAUI. PADI’s referral system does not require a referral to be from the Universal Referral program (since not all agencies are in it). What this now requires is that you certify them as PADI versus signing them off and sending them back via the Universal Referral method. All you need to do is to confirm they have received training via some document, have them sign the required releases and medical forms, etc., access their pool skills before going to open water (including swim skills), give them PADI’s final exam (quizzes or knowledge reviews are not required) and certify them. There is a 12 month window in which the referral is valid. The following is the official policy.
As a Teaching status PADI Instructor, whom can I accept?
Any student diver with documentation (signed by the original instructor) verifying which segments of his training have been successfully completed within the past 12 months and that he is medically fit to dive.
