I am a manager and have received an email asking me to agree in principle a research study is feasible. What is this and am I approving a research study?
All research hosted by the Trust must be feasible in terms of site and resources, meaning for example that there is funding in place to cover requirements and that there are rooms available. In addition, where there are demands on staff time, for example in helping to recruit to a study, this needs to be agreed with the appropriate manager. The R&D office sends out an email to all relevant managers that could be associated with a particular study requesting they read the summary information and confirm whether or not it is feasible to run within their department. This is before the formal research governance checks begin, and is part of, not instead of, the overall Trust R&D process. A study cannot proceed with the approval process without local feasibility confirmation. Any queries please contact the R&D Office.
