While there is no requirement for STA plugfest attendees to join the SAS Consortium, participation is encouraged by the IOL, as it is to the benefit of all device manufacturers to identify and resolve interoperability and conformance issues with their SAS products prior to being released. The testing capabilities offered by the SAS Consortium exceed the level of detail available at the STA plugfests, and serve as an extension of a company’s own in-house R&D/QA efforts, at a significantly reduced cost when compared to the resources required to develop and maintain a comparable level of services internally.
