Hydrogen Fuel Cells – Do They Really Work?

Hydrogen fuel cells sound great – inexpensive, easy to build and install, save huge amounts of money on your gas or diesel bills – but what are they, and do they really work? Maybe you have wondered if these devices, also often called hydrogen oxygen converters or hydrogen generators, really deliver on their promises. Or is it all sales hype? First, what is a hydrogen fuel cell? It’s just a quart-size container (and a few other simple parts) that you add on to your gas or diesel engine. The container holds water, which the fuel cell splits into atoms of hydrogen and oxygen. The “divided” atoms are then added to the combustion system in your engine. This combination creates “assisted” combustion, which means that your engine can begin to create power (and extra miles) from the wasted fuel that is otherwise burned up by your catalytic converter to prevent it from escaping into the atmosphere. Because hydrogen fuel cells “burn” water, they are also frequently called “water for fuel” syste
