Well I actually LIVE here and have done for thirty years, so I think I can give a fairly accurate answer! January and especially February in Melbourne are often EXTREMELY hot and sunny and dry. Melbourne’s climate is variable and sometimes unpredictable, but this is exaggerated by many people. It goes like this: there is a fairly consistent pattern [although with climate change this is changing], of several days getting increasingly hot with a crescendo around 39 – 40 degrees Celsius. This is often followed by a rapid “cool change” in which the temp may fall 10 degrees in an hour. Sometimes the change brings rain, sometimes not. After the cool change another high pressure system may arrive bringing another cycle of increasing temperatures, or alternatively there may some days of warm but not extreme weather before another hot cycle begins.
