Hows living in New York treating you? Is it truly every Midwestern queers dream come true?
Christopher Sweiger: Moving to New York was truly a wonderful decision for me. I get out a lot and I’ve met some truly amazing and inspiring people. As far as longevity, I won’t live here forever. I look at it as “boot camp for San Francisco.” When I do move to San Francisco someday, it’s going to seem like a remote village compared to Manhattan. TM: Let’s talk about the Cleveland art scene versus the New York scene. You took off quickly here, got your works in galleries and boutiques with ease, actually made a profit and received oodles of media attention. What was it like going from being a big fish in a small pond to an accomplished fish in a very populated ocean? CS: It’s actually more like becoming a speck of algae in the Pacific Ocean. I’m gaining recognition here but very, very slowly. As far as jewelry goes, that fits more into the fashion industry. This puts me in competition with the most famous designers in the world.
