Manipulate means to change, so that is the variable that is changed. The dependant variable does not change, and is dependant on the manipulated variable. So, if you wanted to measure height vs. time, your height is dependant on your time. You manipulate (change) the time, and see how your height changes. How about grades vs. amount of time studied. As you change the amount of time you study (manipulated variable) your grade you get changes because of this (hopefully the more you study the better you do) Last one. How about eye color versus height. This one is tricky because either one could be used as a manipulated variable! If eye color were your manipulated variable, you would get a bunch of people with different eye colors and measure their heights. If you wanted height to be the manipulated variable, you would get a bunch of people with different heights (say five feet one, and five foot two, and five foot three people) and look at their eye color.
