How would you define the differences between global warming and the greenhouse effect?

Greenhouse effect is a fact of our atmosphere. We’ve always had it. All planets with atmospheres have a greenhouse effect. Global warming is when the greenhouse effect gets a little stronger, like now. Most people say “climate change” now instead of “global warming” because some people don’t realise that global warming might involve local cooling (say northern and western europe, which could get very cold if the North Atlantic Drift disappears, which it might). So “climate change” is suitably open to accomodate all kinds of effects.
