How would you appraise the year 2009 vis-a-vis your ministry and the performance of its responsibilities?
The year 2009 had been very busy for this ministry. At the unset we decided that we were going to focus on four core mandates of the ministry. The first and important one is employment generation and unemployment reduction. Second is social security and the third is productivity and efficiency in the workplace and the last is ensuring peaceful industrial relations in the sector. I think among the four mandates, we have done a lot of work across the board in this sectors and I can give you a breakdown of what we are able to achieve. First of all is the National Employment Policy. We launched and commenced the implementation of the policy and this has been groundbreaking because the programme had been on ground for seven years without anything being done on it. We inaugurated a National Employment Council, and under the auspices of this council we were able to organize a National Employment Summit with the support of ILO, and all this culminated into us keying into the Global Employment
