How would wolf reintroduction affect hunting?
That’s one of the things that cannot be assessed without more information. Some researchers believe that the majority of wolves will stay within the boundaries of the Park, where hunting is prohibited, because that is where habitat is most suitable and prey concentrations are heavy. This may minimize direct conflict with hunters. Some wolves are expected to disperse into surrounding areas where hunting is permitted and the study concludes that they would likely put some increased pressure on deer and elk herds. While the study says such pressure will likely not impact non-Park deer and elk enough to cause changes in harvest regulation, limited knowledge of those prey populations makes it impossible to estimate actual impact on hunter success rates.
