How would wolf reintroduction affect domestic animals on the peninsula?
The study concluded that occasional losses of livestock and pets are likely to occur if wolves are reintroduced. Livestock losses are not predicted to be significant relative to other areas where wolves exist because only five percent of the privately-owned land on the peninsula is considered agricultural and few farms with livestock exist near the Park. However, occasional losses are likely and will probably be a source of concern to some residents. Currently, private funding is available to compensate stock raisers for losses to wolf predation. Because of the proximity of human habitation to the primary area predicted to be occupied by wolves, pet depredation may be more of an issue than in other wolf-recovery areas.
