How would the Wife of Bath be portrayed in todays society?
In today’s society the Wife of Bath would be portrayed as a woman who is in conflict with herself. She is a feminist, but she also believes in the institution of marriage. She married for money and status the first four times and the fifth time she married for love. The first four marriages were old men who would give her money and status, the fifth man was 20, half her age, but she loved him. The Wife of Bath stated that she wanted as many husbands as Solomon had wives.
